VO65 SPRINT - STAGE 3 START - UPDATES:

1401 local time --

1400 local time -- Jelmer van Beek from the head of the fleet on Team JAJO: "This has been super nice. It's great to have so many people out supporting us. It keeps amazing me. And we're in first place so a good start for us on the race to Genova."

1353 local time -- And Team JAJO with just a brilliant start to Stage 3, through the leaving gate in the lead with WindWhisper and Austrian Ocean Racing / Genova... Fourth place is Mirpuri-Trifork with Viva Mexico fifth... It's shaping up to be a fantastic leg.

1346 local time -- Also a big battle here for fourth place as Viva Mexico and Mirpuri-Trifork split at the leeward gate on equal terms...

1344 local time -- Team JAJO has lost a little bit of their lead, but are still first through the gate, with WindWhisper and Austria/Genova close behind.

1340 local time -- Now it's the Austrian/Genova team making gains on this downwind leg with the spinnaker against the rest of the fleet sailing with masthead code 0 sails...

1335 local time -- Jelmer van Beek and his Team JAJO with a big lead at the top gate that allows them to sail conservative, a calm rounding, a quick gybe back to the middle of the race course, a strong protective position.

1330 local time -- Team JAJO extending on this second lap of the course over WindWhisper, Austrian Ocean Racing / Genova, Viva Mexico and Mirpuri-Trifork Racing...

1327 local time -- A fantastic downwind leg by Team JAJO, who made the right call on the sail selection - spinnaker - and the course side to make the pass over WindWhisper, who just manage to hold on ahead of Austrian Ocean Racing/Genova in third. The wind is now around 8 knots.

1318 local time -- It's WindWhisper Racing just a boatlength ahead of Team JAJO at the top gate, with a different opinion on downwind sails... Masthead Code 0 on WindWhisper while JAJO has the spinnaker up...

1316 local time --

1315 local time -- Team JAJO is bow forward on the fleet, but still locked from tacking by WindWhisper. Both heading far left....

1312 local time -- The Austrian/Italian team has tacked out to the right, but WindWhisper Racing is in a controlling position over the rest of the fleet, as they are preventing the rest from tacking, making the fleet push out to the left.

1310 local time --  A great start by Viva Mexico, but with Team JAJO just to leeward, they might be in trouble if JAJO can hold position...

1307 local time -- Wind is still in the 9-12 knot range... two laps of a windward leeward course before the teams are free to sail their own course to Genova.

1305 local time -- The warning gun has fired - 5 minutes to the start.
There is a new skipper on the overall race leader in the VO65 Sprint as race veteran Daryl Wislang takes over from Pablo Arrarte in a scheduled crew rotation (other commitments). "Really excited and I'm really proud to be stepping into rather big shoes to fill for this last stage," Wislang said.

1245 local time -- The Race Committee reports a 10-12 knot northerly on the race course area. For the first time since we've arrived in The Hague, clouds are starting to roll in...

1215 local time --

1210 local time -- One hour before the start and the Race Committee is reporting 10 to 12 knot northerlies...

1150 local time -- They're off - the VO65s have departed their berths at Ocean Live Park, heading out to the race course area ahead of their 1310 race start.

1130 local time -- The VO65s are starting their sailors parade now, preparing for the start of Stage 3 of The Ocean Race VO65 Sprint... It's another glamour day in The Hague - sunny, warm and there should be about 8-10 knots of wind by start time at 13:10, just over one and half hours from now.
